Helping Hands, Open Hearts was established in 2013, but Ms. Bryant has had an open heart since the age of eight. Feeding the homeless was a family hobby that she participated in as a child with her parents. In 2005 she picked the hobby back up and started feeding at two locations: Dallas Public Library and Day Resource Center. After years of contemplating about turning her hobby into a non-profit, and with urging from family and friends, Helping Hands, Open Hearts was founded. In 2021 HHOH became a fully formed 501c3 organization. Ms. Bryant officially has over 19 years of serving in the community service realm.
Roughly $3000 is what it takes to support a few of HHOH's events & project monthly.
Our Service: We break down our service projects down as such:
Weekly: Terrific Tuesdays and Thankful Thursdays at Camp Rhonda. We serve lunches to the homeless encampments in downtown Dallas, Dallas Love Field Inn, and surrounding areas. We serve over 60 people on Tuesdays and 200 folks on average at Camp Rhonda, weekly.
Monthly: Distribution Day at Salvation Army & Monthly Care Packages. Every 2nd Saturday of the month, we serve in the Social Services room at Salvation Army. We provide prepackaged lunches, clothing, shoes, hygiene and etc. We serve over 175 houseless friends here. One Thursday a month we also provide care packages to the elderly that include groceries and household items. (two families selected a month)
Quarterly: We serve lunch at Tent City. This is a large area where many (houseless and those just needing food) will come and grab a hot, well balanced lunch, along with other needed items like reading glasses, tents, and etc. On average we serve 150 at this event. We also have our Wall of Love event quarterly. We provide and install various items to a wall and those in need can come and grab whatever with no judgement.
Our Community: We serve in the downtown Dallas and Fair Park areas. We are not limited to those areas though. We have also served in Oak Cliff, Desoto, Ft. Worth, McKinney, and Richardson.
