When I started taking classes at Stomping Ground 1 year ago, I'd never done improv. I'd been in one school play for 3 minutes in 8th grade, but other than that I'd never acted. I did get feedback in my work review last year that the best thing about me in the office is that I'm funny -- which is probably just a back-handed slam on my work product now that I think about it. BUT I was in the middle of a bunch of emotional funk, some of it probably related to the pandemic compounding all kinds of my personal mental whacky-ness. And taking improv helped! Taking improv classes at Stomping Ground helped me feel more social after two years of being shut away. It helped me with my anxiety, showing me how to trust my gut and let go of the need to be perfect all the time. It helped me feel more confident as I learned a new skill. I got to pretend to bite someone on the leg. And I made a bunch of new friends!
Stomping Ground not only offers improv for everybody, but they also offer improv for anxiety and improv for caregivers, supporting people who are caring for loved ones with dementia. Your friendly local non-profit improv theater is creating community in so many ways. Your gift helps make it possible for more people to benefit from the power of improv. It saves lives -- I'm not kidding.
