PEAC was started out of Houston ISD, where students from the area wanted to give back to their community and serve the underprivileged students there. They worked with the youth in the Houston area to develop entrepreneurial skills in order to make an impact on their community. Today, PEAC has several university and high school chapters across Texas, each working with students in nearby school districts to address the unique needs of their communities.
CometTutors is the second chapter of PEAC- it is based at UT Dallas and serves the surrounding schools in Richardson ISD. For the past 3 years, the CometTutors volunteers help mentor these students by providing them with the skills they need to succeed in high school and the preparation to apply for colleges in the future. Every week during the school year, university students volunteer to tutor and mentor students in a program called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). Students in this program often come from lower-income backgrounds and don't have as much educational or financial support as other students. By volunteering with these students, we provide them with additional academic guidance and support, such as ACT/SAT workshops, effective studying methods, and socratic-style tutoring sessions. At CometTutors, we hope to be the catalyst for change among Richardson youth.
Our current CometTutors team is working towards creating scholarship opportunities for these students, to reduce the financial burden of pursuing higher education. Students supported by the CometTutors program are mainly from lower income families, and they face additional financial barriers. With your help, we can help ease this burden by providing scholarships to these students so they can achieve their goals of pursuing higher education!
Promoting Education Across the Country, commonly known as PEAC, is a platform that empowers students and supports their development of entrepreneurial skills to better their communities. Our mission in the Dallas-based CometTutors program is to provide guidance to high school students at Richardson ISD through mentorship programs and scholarship opportunities.
