Farmgirl Gives
$0 Raised
In 2014, Chief Executive Farmgirl and Executive Director, Vanessa Bailey, installed her first community garden as a response to witnessing too many barriers to fresh food in a food pantry setting during her tenure as a Social Worker.
After witnessing the transformative power of cultivating community to grow food for those in need, Farmgirl Gives was formed to further expand the ability to train and equip even more urban farmers to grow food for the marginalized and under-served of DFW. Farmgirl Gives provides hands on agricultural education to school classrooms, garden leaders and volunteers in addition to housing some of the most spoiled chicks you ever did see.
We believe that every patch of earth is an opportunity to grow! Thanks for helping us train and equip the next generation of urban farmers so that together we can grow farm fresh food for those in need!
Partner Gardens:
Our Partner Gardens grow food in abundance for the tables of those in need and serve as a living display of nutritious food for their immediate communities while providing opportunities to skills train the next generation of urban farmers. Farmgirl Gives as Partner Gardens in Denton, Collin, and Dallas counties and has been asked to install an herb garden for a local children's advocacy center. Estimated funding needed to continue to provide training and resources to our existing Partner Gardens is $3,500.
Seed Libraries:
Farmgirl Gives provides botanical literacy programming and seed libraries to promote the next generation of urban farmers and currently runs the seed library and community seed share programming for the Krum Library. We hope to add additional seed libraries to the cities of Denton, Ponder and Sanger. Estimated funding needed to provide materials and outreach to add these additional libraries is $2,500.
Continuing Education
All living things grow and continuing education is vital to providing the most up to date and best practice skills training to the communities we serve. This year, we are seeking funding to support sending our Board of Directors and 1 student intern to the Texas Organic Farmers & Gardening Association (TOFGA) conference. Estimated funding needed to secure a busniess memerbship, conference tickets and lodging to attend is $1,500.
Bee Good Honey Guild:
We're home to a busy colony of over 80,000 bees that help us pollinate our gardens and serve to help us train our Bee Good Honey Guild members to sustainably and safely recover bees at risk in our community. We want to expand our current apiary to 20 hives and funds raised will help us BEEcome a pollinator haven and safe harbor as we train our student beekeepers to sustainably source, capture and care for bees while learning how to bring honey to market. Estimated funding needed to add additional bees, hive equipment, bee suits and honey harvest materials is $2,500
Farmgirl Gives is an agricultural education initiative which seeks to train and equip the next generation of urban farmers in sustainable grow methods by providing agricultural education to local school and community garden groups. The food we produce on our farm's test gardens goes to those served by the North Texas Food Bank.
We provide agricultural education by giving lectures to local school and community groups, granting seed donations, and providing environmental education consulting and skills training to nonprofit community garden leaders and school educators. The food we produce on our farm's demonstration gardens goes to those served by the North Texas Food Bank.
