Altrusa has many projects that impact all facets of our community. Our organization donates scholarships to assist high school seniors with college tuition. Altrusa also donates Choose Kind Libraries in partnership with Richardson Independent School District , Annie's Place at Parkland Hospital, Helps International, TeacHaiti , and Think Kindness to promote kindness, acceptance, and respect for cultural, racial, physical and developmental diversity through literacy. For seniors in our community , Altrusa provides programs at local assisted living facilities, nursing homes , and an adult day services center for people with early dementia. Altrusa provides birthday parties and outings for Ability House which is a home for adults with Cerebral Palsy . Our community outreach endeavors include donating food, Christmas toys, winter coats and school supplies to Network. Altrusa also donates books , pillows, hand made pillow cases, sheets, and art cart supplies to Hopes Door and New Beginnings family crisis centers. Our organization sponsors education for a child in Guatemala and in Haiti. Altrusa assists Days for Girls to provide feminine hygiene kits to girls and women all over the world to allow them to stay in school during the times they would otherwise have to miss because of their periods. Our organization supports our military through our SOS program by sending care packages and books to deployed troops.
Our Needs
Our organization needs financial assistance to purchase books for new Choose Kind Libraries as well as assist our programs for seniors and our friends at Ability House. Financial assistance is needed to allow us to continue providing scholarships to local high school seniors and help is needed to continue our projects for Network , New Beginnings and Hopes Door. Additional funds are needed to purchase and ship care packages to deployed troops.
