At Cancer Care Services, we provide free cancer support services to everyone in Tarrant County. We walk with cancer patients, caregivers, and survivors through their journey to limit the impact of cancer on their financial, emotional, and day-to-day well-being.
Cancer Care Services uses a social work navigation model to reduce disparities and distress in our community. Cancer Care offers financial, emotional, and educational resources to improve patient access to care and the efforts of healthcare professionals.
Cancer Care Services supports cancer patients, cares for caregivers, and empowers survivors to reduce the impact of cancer in Tarrant County.
The agency was founded in 1946 in Fort Worth. Cancer Care Services is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves everyone impacted by cancer in Tarrant County: all ages, cancer types, and income levels. Thanks to our donors, we provide all services at NO COST to our clients.
"Community leaders including the then mayor, had this vision over 75 years ago, that the community needed to recognize the tremendous need of the cancer survivor, family, and friends." - Sally Werst McKeen, long-time Cancer Care Services supporter and former Board Member
2024 is the first year in history that the US expects more than 2 million new cases of cancer. In the United States, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
In Tarrant County, cancer is the leading cause of death for females and the second leading cause of death for men. Tarrant County’s cancer incidence rate is also higher than the state average, which means the associated health and financial impact to our community is amplified.
Minorities are disproportionally impacted by cancer. Tarrant’s population of each racial and ethnic minority group has increased over the past 10 years.
While cancer affects people of every income level, the economically disadvantaged have a lower survival rate for all cancers combined. 11% of Tarrant’s population is low-income: close to 242,550 people. Research shows that 1 in 3 families can’t afford their basic needs (such as housing and food) during cancer treatment – and cancer patients who receive financial intervention/assistance have a 73% survival rate compared to only 45% for those who do not.
We actively seek to promote access, equity, and inclusiveness; and to stand against discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, religion, or any factors that deny the humanity of all people.
