If spending $50 could change the future, would you do it? Dollars for College puts local kids on the path to success. Kids who grow up with even a small college savings amount are 3 times more likely to go to college and 4 times more likely to graduate. The goal for Dollars for College is to ensure that every student can achieve their dreams beyond high school, which is best realized through completing post-secondary education. Dollars for College accounts will be opened for every kindergarten and first grade student at a participating school (Audelia Creek, Forest Lane Academy, and RISD Academy are the first campuses participating.) These accounts will be seeded with $50 dollars and can be linked to a student's individual 529 account, set up by the parents. Families and students will have opportunities to earn incentives and matched deposits to grow their overall savings. For example, students could earn incentive funds for attendance, parent involvement, or educational goals, such as reading and math fluency. When the student is ready to pursue post-secondary education or training, they can access funds from their accounts to use toward that expense. Richardson and Lancaster ISD are two of the first school districts in the Dallas area to launch this program. Contact Wende Burton at Communities Foundation of Texas at wburton@cftexas.org for information on how you can help launch a program for your school.
Invest in a Child's Future with Dollars for College: When you invest in a child's future early on, they learn that college is possible. Please help us improve the future of our community and put Richardson and Lancaster kids on the path to success by considering a gift to Dollars for College.
Dollars for College is a children's savings account (CSA) program that is designed to provide Richardson families with a safe, easy to access, trusted and low-cost opportunity to build savings for their child's future post-secondary education, developed in partnership between Richardson ISD, Communities Foundation of Texas and United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.
