Our goal is to transform lives through design, inspiring families to maintain a standard of living in which they can thrive.

Dwell with Dignity partners with local social services agencies that have programs in place to take families from homelessness and poverty to self-sufficiency. These agencies nominate families that have made a commitment to self-sufficiency and changing their life. Oftentimes, after a family has received all of the counseling, training, and support from our partner agencies, they find themselves struggling to provide a home in which they can thrive. Dwell with Dignity addresses this critical economic need through our mission.

In addition to serving individual families, we have expanded on our mission to transform lives through design by serving the community, which we do in numerous ways. As outlined below in Our Needs, we are now transforming community spaces, helping to boost the efforts of our nonprofit partners who tirelessly serve DFW communities. We are also working to develop social impact marketplaces, drawing upon our deep retail experience gained through running our Thrift Studio luxe thrift concept. Through these new retail experiences, patrons can enjoy shopping that will benefit nonprofits and mission-driven for-profit businesses, knowing they are reinvesting in their community with every purchase.

Our Needs

In order to bring the benefits of design to our clients, we rely on the support of our community, especially through the patronage of our month-long Thrift Studio pop-up store, where designer furniture, decor, and one-of-a-kind art are sold at a steep discount to the general public, with all proceeds going back directly to benefit our mission. The revenue from this pop-up amounts to roughly 60% of our annual revenue, making it a critical arm of our social enterprise.

While Thrift Studio covers some of the costs for serving families and communities throughout the year, funding from North Texas Giving Day is essential to Dwell with Dignity to meet the demand experienced throughout the year.

Your support of Dwell with Dignity on North Texas Giving Day ensures that we can make an impact on more individuals, families, and organizations through designing better spaces for community partners who are otherwise limited in resources.

Giving Activity

Mission

Dwell with Dignity's mission is to transform lives through design. Dwell with Dignity’s services are focused on two core constituencies: (1) families working toward long-term self-sufficiency who need help creating home environments in which they can thrive, and (2) public organizations who provide spaces that serve as a respite for impoverished, underserved, and/or differently abled communities.

For its family projects, DwD partners with social services agencies in the Dallas area that have programs in place to take families from homelessness and poverty to self-sufficiency. These agencies nominate alumni of their programs who have shown a commitment to establishing and maintaining a home for themselves but who may need assistance in outfitting those homes to provide a comfortable, welcoming environment. Using a combination of donated and purchased items, DwD creates a personalized space for each family member and beautiful shared spaces tailored to the family’s specific needs.

For its community projects, DwD partners with local non-profits, schools, and community service providers to bring its unique brand of inspiring lives through design to community spaces. A combination of purchased and donated goods are deployed to turn otherwise utilitarian spaces into safe havens.

Equity Statement

Dwell with Dignity is committed to being a driving force for social equity in the North Texas community. We seek diversity and inclusion in everything we do, which should be a critical expectation of an organization whose clients are more than 90% people of color.

We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion on every front, whether it's in our staffing, our leadership, or those who serve on our board.

In addition, we have developed our Diversity in Design initiative, to open up the design profession to a broader spectrum of representation. Through this program, we help emerging diverse designers gain exposure with the larger community of Dwell with Dignity patrons, corporate sponsors, and supporting foundations.
