Our Needs
In the heart of Dallas beats the pulse of a city made vibrant by its more than 1.3 million residents who call it home. Charged with protecting this dynamic community, the Dallas Police Department’s approximately 3,700 sworn and non-sworn are committed to upholding the highest standards of service and protection.
For over 42 years, the Friends of the Dallas Police has taken immense pride in recognizing the exceptional contributions of these tireless officers and staff. Each year during its annual awards banquet, Friends of the Dallas Police comes together to honor around 300 police officers and non‐sworn employees who have been recognized by the Dallas Police Department in the past year for their strong leadership, extraordinary acts of heroism, unwavering dedication and exceptional service. From Officer of the Year, Non-Sworn Employee of the Year and Detective of the Year to Medal of Valor, Rookie of the Year and Telecommunicator of the Year, the awards – which are carefully determined by the DPD Meritorious Conduct Board – are presented personally to each employee by Chief Garcia.
This year the Police Cross will also be awarded to Police Officer Darron Burks who lost his life in the line of duty on August 29, 2024. The Police Cross Award is awarded to an employee for devotion and performance of duty to the extent of giving their own life in heroic sacrifice to that duty, thereby meriting high honor and profound respect for themselves and the Department.
We hope you will join us in paying tribute to these dedicated men and women and supporting Friends of the Dallas Police. Your donation will help us procure awards, extend invitations to sworn and non-sworn employees and their families, and host recognition events throughout the year to commend DPD units for their outstanding meritorious achievements.
With your support, the Friends of the Dallas Police can continue its time-honored tradition of celebrating DPD’s most devoted officers and employees who sacrifice so much to safeguard our city.
