The homeless among us are equal members of humanity, and are worthy of love, respect, dignity and assistance in their journey to live a purposeful and productive life.
Living without a home, an ID, food and safety is exhausting — and it leaves people feeling invisible, forgotten and hopeless.
Hope Restored Missions helps anyone who walks through our doors and serves those who have been marginalized and neglected to create a better life of positive outcomes.
HRM is a grassroots community effort by dedicated volunteers on a mission to restore hope to the homeless by truly seeing them. We listen to clients, validate their experiences and treat them as valued members of our community. We restore hope through relationships, helping clients access the resources they need to achieve stability.
But meeting immediate needs like food and clothing, while important, does not solve the problem. Social service agencies and police departments in the cities of Allen, McKinney and Plano refer/drop off clients to HRM because we are a Collin County organization dedicated to walking an adult homeless person through the complex process of reentering employment and getting back into housing.
It all starts with an ID.
Take a moment to imagine…
You have no home and your only possessions are what you can keep on or near your person. You have no personal or identifying documents. Without an ID, you can’t:
- Get a job
- Stay in a hotel
- Access food pantries
- Get adequate healthcare
- Become a member of the library
HRM volunteer case managers walk clients through each step of the process, beginning with obtaining the documents needed to secure an ID, including a birth certificate and Social Security card. Even securing these documents can be a major undertaking when a person has no identifying documentation whatsoever. Volunteers help with acquiring school records, medical records and/or residency affidavits as a first step in requesting a birth certificate.
Sometimes there are outstanding fees that must be paid before a client can obtain their ID. HRM helps them secure the funds to pay those fees. Clients may use HRM’s address to request documents. HRM is the only agency in Collin County that provides temporary photo identification for individuals. Since the launch of HRM "See me Campaign" in October 2022, HRM has provided over 150 temporary photo ID's to individuals whose ID was either lost or stolen!
Once a client has the appropriate documents needed to apply for a state ID, HRM pays for the fees and a volunteer accompanies them to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The ID procurement process takes anywhere from six weeks to six months! Once IDs have been secured, we move forward with them in their healing journey of restoring hope.
Since 2021, we have served 2450 individuals who were homeless or on the brink of homelessness. In the past three years, we have seen a steady increase in the number of seniors (age 55+) in Collin County who reside in a motor vehicle, hotel/motel, shared housing, or are expending far more than 30% of their income on housing costs. These clients are at or below 30% of the median family income and typically have few or no social support networks.
Volunteer Testimony:
Hello, North Texas!
"My name is Shirley, I have been volunteering at Hope Restored Missions since January 2021. This was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, to be able to meet, greet and help our homeless friends is something very special. I want to make a difference in people’s lives and give them hope, everyone needs hope!"
Our Needs
How You Can “See Me”
HRM is an all-volunteer agency in urgent need of financial and volunteer support.
Financial need: Our goal is to raise $100,000 to provide holistic case management services to include ID procurement for 250 individuals. In addition to providing ID's for our clients, we are in need of finances that would help us move into our new building (under construction) for which we desperately need to expand our space this year to accommodate for more case management staff to better serve our clients with case management, food, toiletries, more space for mail services, an overhead door for storage of much needed clothing, shoes, food, and small household goods for when our clients are housed.
Volunteer need: We need 20 volunteers to fill these positions: one program/office manager, three case managers, three intake specialists, five receptionists and five greeters.
In-kind donations: Food, toiletries for men and women, office cleaning products, office supplies, storage space, copier toner, security cameras, DART bus passes and a van.
