Our Mission
The Jordan Elizabeth Harris Foundation works to prevent suicide, eliminate stigma, and provide hope to people struggling with depression.
Our Story
The Jordan Elizabeth Harris Foundation was formed in 2014 to honor the legacy of Jordan Harris, a young woman from North Richland Hills, Texas who died by suicide in 2012. Jordan was in her senior year at the University of Michigan and took her life shortly after being diagnosed with depression. She was her high school's valedictorian, National Merit Scholarship winner, a tireless volunteer, and a compassionate champion of those less fortunate. Jordan's death left her devastated family and friends to wonder if they could have done more to help her through her struggles. Her loved ones discovered there were no local programs available in Fort Worth, Texas area providing evidence-based suicide prevention training and education.
Our Approach
Because 75% of people who die by suicide don't have contact with a doctor or mental health professional before they die, it is essential that we offer training to those around them who may be able to identify an issue and help seek treatment.
The Jordan Elizabeth Harris Foundation is committed to providing training so that all people can recognize universal warning signs of suicide. The Foundation specifically works with organizations where people often congregate: Schools, Faith Communities & the Workplace.
