A staggering 1.5 million children live in poverty in Texas. Around 155,000 of those children live in Dallas County and 50,000 qualify as living in extreme poverty, defined as a family of four living on $14,000 or less a year.
-
Single mothers in Dallas are twice as likely to live at or below the poverty line as single fathers. One-third of Dallas children live with a single mother.
-
43 percent of Dallas residents speak a language other than English.
- One-fifth of the nation’s uninsured children live in Texas.
The need is overwhelming! Our goal is to conduct 8,000 free patient visits annually!
Our Needs
1. The Foundation seeks ongoing funding to support its mobile pediatric clinic, The Doctor Spot. The clinic provides free healthcare services for Dallas County children ages 0-18 years who either have no insurance or who are underinsured. Services include sick and well checks; immunizations; sports physicals; asthma management; vision, hearing, lead, and obesity screenings; lab fees, prescriptions, and x-rays.
2. The Foundation seeks ongoing funding to support its mobile sonogram unit to provide free pregnancy testing sonograms, counseling, Medicaid enrollment assistance and referrals to underserved women who are unable to pay for these services on their own.
3. We welcome in-kind donations of furniture, home accessories, clothing, jewelry, shoes, etc. at the LifeSavers Upscale Resale store, 561 W. Campbell Road, Suite 101, Richardson, TX 75080 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mondays - Saturdays. To arrange furniture pickup call 972-669-9000.
