Accion is an award-winning nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the tools entrepreneurs need to operate, grow, or start their business. Accion increases access to business credit, makes loans, and provides training to help entrepreneurs realize their dreams and to help businesses thrive. Accion offers small business loans ranging from $1,000 to $1 million, along with training and other support services, including credit reporting, business counseling, publicity opportunities, and educational business resource events. Accion empowers people to be catalysts for positive change-one small business at a time. Founded in New Mexico in 1994, Accion has since expanded into Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and Texas. In 2015, Accion extended its services to entrepreneurs throughout Texas. Since then, the organization has provided over 162 loans totaling more than $2.1 million to some 148 small businesses in 72 communities across the state. Accion's work is creating tangible economic impact in Texas, with an estimated 370 jobs created or sustained by the organization's client businesses. Accion is a pace-setting microlender with a reputation for innovation, accountability, and impact. In 2016, Charity Navigator rated Accion a four-star organization for the sixth year in a row. Only 5 percent of charities in the nation have earned this distinction. Accion is certified by the US Department of Treasury as a Community Development Financial Institution.
Accion provides loans between $1,000 and $1 million to entrepreneurs who face barriers to securing business credit from traditional financial institutions. Accion also offers training opportunities and other support services to those who want to start or expand a small business. Small businesses are critical to growing local economies, creating jobs, and increasing entrepreneurs' financial independence and security. Accion has issued more than 162 business development loans in Texas since 2015, amounting to more than $2.1 million invested in the ability of local entrepreneurs to become more economically self-sufficient and provide employment and opportunities for others. Accion places particular importance on serving low-income, minority and women entrepreneurs. During 2016, 87 percent of Accion's Texas clients were low-to-moderate-income, minority, or female borrowers. Accion's clients are hard-working individuals who have chosen business ownership as a means to create jobs, provide for their families, and give back to the community. With your support in 2017, Accion can issue 87 small business loans totaling $1.2 million to support the start-up or growth of Texas businesses, who are expected to created/sustain 177 jobs. Additionally, Accion will continue to deliver one-on-one financial education and business technical assistance to hundreds of Texas entrepreneurs. Through this work Accion will increase access to much-needed affordable business credit, along with complimentary pre- and post-loan support to help entrepreneurs successfully grow their businesses and build vibrant local economies.
