The mission of Contemporary Ballet Dallas is to present innovative dance performances and educational programs to a broad audience, while cultivating emerging dance artists and choreographers in North Texas.
We meet our mission by: fusing traditional ballet with contemporary dance and music to present ballet as a progressive art form; implementing outreach programs that make dance accessible to underserved communities; & providing dancers and choreographers the opportunity to perform and create in a smaller, contemporary setting.
The 2017-2018 season marks CBD's 17th anniversary. Since founding, CBD has consistently produced full concert seasons, premiered over 85 original works, afforded opportunities to over 40 local, emerging choreographers to set works (providing dancers, rehearsal space, costumes, lights and a concert to premiere their works at no cost to them); commissioned 14 new works from respected and renowned choreographers; and participated in a number of area art and dance festivals. CBD presents 2-3 high quality contemporary dance concerts each year, performs at local community performances such as the Dallas Museum of Art, serves as entertainment for charity events, and continues to present our community outreach programs to underserved students through our Chance to Dance educational initiatives. The close of the 15th season saw a shift in bringing more noted choreographers to premiere works in Dallas. The new season continues in this fashion with Guest Choreographers Lisa Hess-Jones, former soloist with NYCB, AnnMaria Mazzini formerly of Paul Taylor Dance Company, Ballet Lubbock Artistic Director Yvonne Yacz-Key. Our 16-17 season budget increased from the previous year, and CBD is excited for our new direction of the company!
