Foundation for Brain Health Advances (Center for BrainHealth)

The Foundation was organized to provide research, education, training or service programs for the cognitive treatment of brain injuries and brain disease.
1. SMART and Mindfulness for Dallas Police Department Officers - In response to the July 2016 attack that took the lives of five Dallas law enforcement officers, the Center for BrainHealth launched an initiative to provide its evidence-based Strategic Memory Advanced Reasoning Training (SMART), as well as a mindfulness program specifically designed for law enforcement personnel, to Dallas Police Department officers. An initial lead gift has enabled training for 500 officers; with additional funding, we can expand our reach to all Dallas Police Department officers, as well as officers in suburban departments. 2. The Adolescent Reasoning Initiative - The Adolescent Reasoning Initiative is a research-based intervention that helps middle school students learn how to think deeply, strategically, and creatively. Since its inception in 2008, the Adolescent Reasoning Initiative has impacted more than 54,000 youth, nearly 300 teachers, and 125 administrators in schools across five states. While in years past this program has benefited from state funding, the Texas legislature recently voted to reduce its support of several special item programs, including the Adolescent Reasoning Initiative, making philanthropic contributions even more critical and meaningful. 3. The Discovery Group - The Discovery Group is a strength-based intervention for individuals with early stage Alzheimer's disease or dementia and their caregivers. With a focus on maintaining and refining existing strengths, rather than dwelling on lost function, the Discovery Group provides hope in the midst of what can be a hopeless diagnosis. Funding in support of this program will enable our team to continue serving individuals with Alzheimer's and their caregivers and create expanded opportunities for caregiver support and continued engagement for past participants.
