To educate the public and provide research opportunities in the areas of water quality and supply, wildlife management, and wetland systems.
We would like to raise $400,000 over the next six months to build a NEW sustainable education space to double our student capacity and continue our great conservation programs and field studies.
Since 2010, the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center has been the forerunner in educating over 25,000 students and 3,000 adults about the importance of water, wetland and wildlife conservation. Now we have a new five-year vision: Doubling our visitor capacity and increasing amenities by 2020 so even more North Texas students and families can enjoy this jewel of the Trinity River.
Over a yearlong process, Halff Associates, Inc., helped us identify a new vision and a plan for achieving it. As part of its process, Halff undertook a comprehensive operational and market analysis aimed at making the best use of our education center.
The initial proposed physical improvements include adding sustainable classrooms and social gathering space to increase the number of students we can host. We would like to raise $400,000 in the next six months to build this new education space and continue our great conservation programs.
The John Bunker Sands Wetland Center provides field studies and hands on workshops that focus on water and wildlife conservation. Our greatest needs are:
1) Increasing public awareness of conserving our most precious resource - WATER
2) Supporting our school programs 4th -12th/College throughout the greater Dallas area.
3) Conserving local wildlife populations including monitoring a successfully relocated American Bald Eagle nest.
4) Promoting Research on the impact of our programming, increasing the water recycling effort of the East Fork Wetland Project, and development of wildlife habitat.
