The Gatehouse

The Gatehouse mission is to empower women and children in crisis to end cycles of abuse and poverty for themselves and future generations. We provide a place and program that offers safe refuge, ample time, practical resources and healthy relationships needed to help families heal and build new lives. We fill the gap between short-term services and permanent self-supportiveness by providing resources to break down barriers which keep women from living to their highest potential. The Gatehouse was founded by Matt & Lisa Rose and Deborah Lyons in 2012 as an initiative of the 501(c)(3) projectHandUp. Located on 61 acres, just west of DFW Airport in Grapevine, The Gatehouse community opened in March 2015 and serves 95 women and approx. 150 children at a time. Families that come to The Gatehouse are enrolled in our faith-based Independent Life Program (ILP) that provides housing, food, transportation, child care, medical/dental care, clothing, professional counseling, legal aid, education, financial literacy training, & career development services. Each family is guided by a trained Gatehouse Advisor (case manager) who helps them establish and achieve goals for reaching their full potential. Since we are privately funded, families can stay up to 2 _ years, depending on their individually-tailored program. This allows time to heal, set goals, develop financial stability, complete education, and secure self-sustaining employment. Our goal is permanent self-supportiveness for each family we serve.
