To provide services for people with disabilities in Tarrant, Dallas, Denton and Collin Counties so that they are able to lead self-directed lives and to educate the general public about disability-related topics in order to promote a barrier free community.
The current needs for the REACH Resource Centers on Independent Living in Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton and Plano include additional funds to enhance services that include assisting nursing home residents relocate to living in the community; assisting youth with disabilities transition from high school to adult life; offering ongoing training classes/workshops on topics such as budgeting and money management, self-advocacy and assertiveness skills, and basic computer skills; providing employment readiness training and job placement assistance to job seekers with disabilities; loaning of assistive devices/aids such as manual wheelchairs and closed circuit TV readers to people with mobility impairments and vision impairments, respectively; building ramps, and/or installing grab bars, and/or installing handrails at the homes of low income people with mobility impairments living in Fort Worth & Tarrant County; offering adjustment to disability training sessions for people with all types of disabilities.
