Three summers ago, Summer Santa partnered with The Artisan Theater to send children to see matinee children's theater. One of our board members was able to participate and help with the group of children. The children that we had in this group were from a group of children that had been placed into a home for children that had issues from severe abuse. mental, emotional, physical abuse and all of these children were waiting to be placed for adoption or back into their families. Our board member noticed this one little boy had a safety pin and was concerned that he may hurt himself. She asked one of the counselors that supervised the children about it. He knew that the child had the safety pin and said it was ok that he did. The counselor told her that the safety pin was the only thing that he had from his mother. When she had released him to this unit, that was all he had to hang on to in hope that one day he would be with her again. We make the difference in so many children's lives by letting them be children for a week and creating memories without worries. We have so many wonderful stories that we receive thank you notes from the children and the parents. Camps do make a difference and we can all relate to our summers at camps or just being kids. The memories are priceless and make a positive impact in their lives.
Our Needs
Children are not responsible for the everyday family challenges (abuse, death, loss of job, divorce, sickness, homelessness) that might be putting stress in their family life. Summer Santa, an all-volunteer organization, a non paid staff non-profit, provides summer camp scholarships, sports registrations, sports physicals, toys, books, back to school shopping event with backpacks, free hair cuts and donated school supplies strives to put a little cheer in the lives of the children of Northeast Tarrant County, Texas.
Summer Santa participated in the 2013 - 2020 NTGD. The donations given by many caring people provided funding for children to shop for school clothes and sent children to a week long camp of their choice.
In 2020, Summer Santa wasn't able to send children to camp because of the Pandemic, so we had to become creative to help the children that we serve. We had " camp in a box" that had educational and fun items for the children. We were able to distribute over 400 boxes to the area school districts that we serve. Normally we send 150-200 children to camp and this year we helped over 400 families. Every dollar given is an investment in the needs of a child in Northeast Tarrant County, Texas.
