Our Needs

We are excited for our 4th year of participation in North Texas Giving Day!

Thank you generous support, in 2023, we were able to utilize the funds to expand our operations and award four grant funds to support small businesses in the DFW area.  We were also excited to launch on our inaugural FoundHERations program. We were proud to recognize the six participants for their completion at the February 2024 celebratory event.

In our 2024 campaign we desire  to raise funds for our 2nd cohort launch in early 2025, small grant distribution and operational expenses such as marketing and advertising.

We have a goal to raise 50% of our fundraising budget through North Texas Giving Day and we THANK YOU for your support or our organization. Please visit our website for more information.  www.aboutmysistersbusiness.org. We are grateful for your continued support.  It means the world to us! Sincerely, Alexis Dennard & Michelle Jordan - CoFoundHers

Mission

Our mission is to equip, educate, and empower female business owners with an emphasis black women through “connection” opportunities designed to elevate the value of entrepreneurship. Our logo represents the connections that create these beautiful opportunities. Our vision is to be nationally recognized as experts in business support that have helped thousands of women in business secure the skills, capabilities, and capital to advance female business owners in underrepresented industries.

Needs

The number of Black female business founders is growing at an unprecedented rate. While this demonstrates an inspiring trend of entrepreneurship, it also underscores a pressing need: Black women founders often face disproportionate challenges in accessing the necessary resources and capital to launch and sustain their businesses. A report from the National Women’s Business Council found that Black women start businesses with an average of just $35,205 in capital, compared to $106,720 for all women and $143,431 for white women. Furthermore, less than 1% of venture capital funding goes to Black women. These statistics illustrate a startling disparity that hinders the growth of businesses led by Black women, thus limiting their economic and societal impact. 'About My Sisters Business' is dedicated to filling this gap by providing targeted business education, capital funding opportunities, and resource allocation guidance to Black female founders, helping them to overcome these barriers and thrive in their entrepreneurial journeys.

Equity Statement

At About My Sisters Business, we passionately believe that empowering economic and financial advancement is not merely an ideal but a mandate. Our mission is to equip female founders with the tools, resources, and networks they need to thrive in today’s dynamic business ecosystem.

In our pursuit of this mission, we are unwavering in our commitment to equity. We recognize that the historic and systemic biases faced by women, especially Black women in business have impeded their ability to access and fully engage in entrepreneurial opportunities. Our purpose is to dismantle these barriers by promoting an environment of equal opportunity, access, and representation.

In practice, this means that we will be diligent and intentional in the development and delivery of our programs. We will actively seek to address the specific needs and challenges in business and to provide them with resources that can truly make a difference.

We understand that true equity goes beyond mere inclusivity. It requires us to level the playing field by acknowledging and addressing the specific disadvantages faced by underrepresented women in the business world. It means proactively fostering an environment where the voices of female founders are not just heard but amplified and centered in the discourse on entrepreneurship.

We commit to continuously learning, adapting, and refining our strategies to reflect the evolving needs of the communities we serve. We welcome collaboration with other organizations and individuals who share our vision, and we will remain transparent and accountable in all our actions.

In conclusion, at About My Sisters Business, equity isn’t just a policy - it’s the very foundation of our work. Our vision is a world where every woman who aspires to start or grow her own business has the opportunity and support to make that dream a reality. We won’t stop working until we make this vision come true.
