Mission: To develop servant leaders in the African Church and community who reconcile and transform lives affected by conflict and injustice.

Brief History of ALARM

In 1994, African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries (ALARM) was founded as a response to the Rwandan genocide and the civil and political unrest within Burundi and the DR Congo. Rev. Dr. Celestin Musekura survived the Rwandan Genocide and was left with a burden and calling to train and equip servant leaders in Africa while promoting inner healing and reconciliation. Rev. Dr. Celestin recognized the critical need to empower community leaders to understand the value of servant leadership, biblical peacebuilding, healing, forgiveness, reconciliation, and restorative justice.

In 1996, Rev. Dr. Celestin Musekura came to Dallas Theological Seminary for doctoral research on biblical and communal forgiveness. In 1998, ALARM US was registered to raise funds and mobilize individuals, families, and churches to support ALARM ministries performed by indigenous Africans in East and Central Africa.

Over the past many years, ALARM has succeeded in equipping servant leaders of all backgrounds and professions to advocate for peace, justice, and reconciliation while transforming communities. ALARM has expanded into the US and 8 African countries as the years have progressed. Currently ALARM has registered offices in Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and the US.

ALARM in North Texas

Injustice and trauma from racism and tribalism have lasting impacts on Africans still living in their homeland as well as those dispersed throughout the world. ALARM's mission is to promote peacebuilding and reconciliation wherever African communities exist by engaging and educating public servants, community influencers, and religious leaders. ALARM's programs restore peaceful coexistence, personal dignity, and community prosperity through carefully guided steps of confession, forgiveness, healing, and reconciliation. In North Texas, ALARM is now deploying this proven approach with African immigrants settling in our region. Despite many challenges in adapting to a foreign culture, ALARM helps Africans build strong families that share love with each other and their new neighbors.

Mission

The mission of ALARM is to mobilize, train and empower individuals to become leaders who are dedicated to creating peaceful, reconciled, and flourishing communities.

Needs

One of our most significant needs today is to serve the growing number of African refugees arriving in the DFW metroplex. ALARM seeks to add skilled staff to meet, assess, educate, and mentor families escaping from rebellion, oppression, and poverty. The initial phases of ALARM's refugee/immigrant stabilization program covers basic living skills, finding community, health care, financial planning, job search, Dallas' education system, government agencies/programs, and US laws and tax codes. Subsequent phases address topics like civic education, marital and family enrichment, ESL, gender-based violence awareness, parenting in Western culture, and other information enabling a successful transition from Africa to their new home in America.

Equity Statement

We are:

• Convinced that without strong pastoral leadership, the African church will remain superficial, syncretistic, and without true transformation, spiritual growth, and maturity.

• Committed to empower the African Church, equipping pastors and leaders to nurture others in the Christian faith for the transformation of their communities.

• Church-Focused with a heart for leadership, evangelism, and discipleship in the local church, preparing God's people for works of service wherever they find themselves.

Therefore, we seek to be:

• Christ-Centered in our being and doing, honoring Christ through prayers, service, faithfulness, and gratitude.

• Cooperative in ministry, valuing partnerships that are diverse and creative in their approach to solving Africa’s complex social and spiritual problems. Cooperation reflects the Body of Christ and maximizes both human and financial resources.

• Faithful in our stewardship of the people, talents, gifts, and resources that God has entrusted to us.

• Trustworthy as servants of the Lord in word, deed, and conduct.

• Respectful, valuing one another as individuals, team members, and colleagues who minister together in this ministry of reconciliation, respecting individual cultural differences while promoting open communication, innovation, personal growth, and organizational excellence
