$10,000 Goal

Awwdoptable was founded by Oak Cliff native and community volunteer, Lee Jamison, who was concerned about the number of companion animals euthanized in municipal shelters. These kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs would be wonderful pets, except for simple problems that the overworked shelters were unable to tackle. On any day, a shelter's EU list could include kittens with ringworm, a puppy with a broken leg, an unaltered dog or a terrified cat. Working with shelter intake personnel and concerned veterinarians, Awwdoptable volunteers pull these almost-adoptable animals from shelters, secure them in foster homes, get them medical care, vaccinations and neutering, socialize them, and find permanent homes. As the group becomes more well-known, we are asked to rescue street dogs and cats, as well. We network the now-awwdoptable pets through social media, adoption events, PetSmart locations and even Cat Yoga! In the past 12 months, Awwdoptable has rescued, rehabilitated, and found homes for 300 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

Our Needs

Awwdoptable depends on the community of animal lovers to provide funds for veterinary care, which often includes surgery for broken bones, medicine for flea infestation or respiratory infections, and always neutering and vaccinations. In addition, we require a network of volunteer foster homes to care for, medicate, and socialize the animals that Awwdoptable rescues, until they are ready for adoption to a permanent home. The more foster homes we have, the more animals we can rescue and rehome. We also need volunteers with cars to transport animals to veterinary appointments, foster homes, and adoption events. In addition to volunteers, Awwdoptable needs supplies for bottle feeding kittens, such as towels, formula, bottles, and medication, and supplies for transporting animals to veterinary appointments, such as pet carriers, pet dishes, and litter pans.

Mission

Awwdoptable, Inc. works to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome companion animals in Texas. Our animal intake results from shelter partnerships, community foundlings, and, though not formalized programming, occasionally owner surrenders. All pets adopted through Awwdoptable, Inc. have completed their age-appropriate vaccination schedule, are microchipped, and spayed or neutered prior to adoption (in compliance with Dallas City Code).

We are based in North Texas where most of our donors and volunteers live. Accordingly, we prioritize locally, serving the animals and owners in the DFW metroplex community first, and then shelter animals in rural communities whose shelters have low-visibility and low live-release rates.

Awwdoptable believes in animal health education and outreach to owners and neighbors of community cats, and organize or participate in community events throughout the DFW metroplex.

Though not part of our standard programs, Awwdoptable believes strongly in the impact of "Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)" for community cats, and provide education, tools, and as time and budget allows, actual trapping assistance to those seeking to humanely control cat colonies.
