Our Needs

The Visual Arts Guild helps the students and faculty of Booker T. Washington High School by defraying the high cost of studying the arts by:

  • Assisting the art department faculty by paying for art supplies not covered by the school budget - supplies for which they otherwise might pay out of their own pockets
  • Replacing worn out equipment such as plasma cutters, welders and table saws
  • Providing spot-grants for students with immediate needs for school-related purchases
  • Updating technology
  • Sponsoring enrichment activities and master classes
  • Offering scholarships to graduating seniors

Current conservatory needs include hardware, wood, casting materials, resin, toner cartridges, weaving looms, yarn, drawing boards and canvases, kilns, displays, mason jars, sponges, and hand cleaner for printmaking cleanup.

Our Programs

Students in the Visual Arts Conservatory have the opportunity to participate in a variety of programs, competitions, and exhibits including:

  • Young American Talent: The Visual Arts Guild is a proud host of the Young American Talent juried art competition. This annual event, typically held in the spring, provides North Texas high school students an opportunity to exhibit, compete with peers, and receive recognition in a professional gallery setting.
  • National Art Honor Society: NAHS students have opportunities for national recognition, scholarships, leadership experience, and connectivity to 50,000+ outstanding arts students worldwide are available to members of an NAHS or NJAHS chapter.
  • Showcase: Senior Showcase is an annual event held in late November that gives seniors the opportunity to meet with college reps to showcase their talents. We provide hospitality to our students, faculty and guests.
  • Portfolio Day: At this fall event, college reps from across the country come to campus to view student portfolios and talk with students about post-BTW plans. The guild provides hospitality to our guests and faculty during this important event.
  • Senior Exhibits: Students participate in a series of exhibits during their senior year. At each exhibit the guild hosts a free reception open to all to recognize and celebrate our seniors.
  • Student Exhibits: Students exhibit continuously in the Hudson Gallery on the BTW campus. We host free, public receptions so students can celebrate with family, friends, faculty and guests.
  • Visual Arts Market: The Visual Arts Market is a popular annual event where Visual Arts students set up booths and sell their art and wares.
