Women in Kenya have limited rights and were only granted permission to own land in 2011, the same year that polygamy was legalized. Girls are not given the same opportunity for education as boys. However women are primarily responsible for the care and education of their own children. Poverty due to lack of education and skills drives some women to commit crimes in order to care for their family. Most women are in prison because of making and/or selling illegal alcohol, theft or prostitution. Once a woman is arrested, she is rejected by the community and many times even her family. Her husband typically remarries, the children stay with relatives....if they are lucky, or live on the streets.
There are no programs in Kenya to help women when they are released from prison. Building Families For Tomorrow gives these women an opportunity to totally transform their lives by becoming self-sufficient and reunited with their children as a family.
The greatest need right now is sponsorship for women to go through the transition program. For only $1,200 ($100 per month) you can transform a woman's life by going through a 6 month training program to becoming self sufficient within one year, together with her family. We train them in a trade, do counseling, Bible studies, social integration, help establish a micro-enterprise business for them and reunite them with their families to give these women a truly transformed life.
To help Kenyan women departing prison to transition back into society by empowering them with education, life skills training, and biblical discipleship, so that they can be reunited with their families and attain sustained independence.
