The C. V. Roman Medical Society is the Dallas/ Fort Worth Society of the National Medical Association

The National Medical Association (NMA), founded in 1895, is the largest and oldest organization representing African American physicians and their patients in the United States. Our goal is to generate philanthropic support for the collective voice of African American physicians as the leading force for parity and justice in medicine and for eliminating health disparities through health education, healthcare access, and educational scholarships.

Mission

The C. V. Roman Medical Society mission is to advance the art and science of medicine for people of African descent via education, advocacy, and health policy.  We aim to promote health and wellness, increase access to care, eliminate health disparities, and sustain physician liability.  We are a chapter of the National Medical Association, consisting of a community of physicians in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

Needs

Only about 5.7 percent of physicians in the United States identify as Black or African American, according to the latest Association of American Medical Colleges data. This statistic does not reflect the communities they serve, as an estimated 12 percent of the United States population is Black or African American. The C.V. Roman Medical Society is providing solutions to address health disparities and improve the healthcare of minorities. We aim to provide resources, education, and improved healthcare access to ensure individuals receive the medical care they need to maximize their positive long-term outcomes.  We intend to increase the successful matriculation of Black and African American medical students and residents through scholarship and mentorship.  The C.V. Roman Medical Society is dedicated to improving the health outcomes for individuals and families in our community, and we cannot stress enough that we cannot do it alone. We need partners like you, who have the power to make a difference, to help us provide scholarship support for medical professionals and financial support focusing on educating communities and empowering individuals to make healthy lifestyle choices, thereby decreasing medical disparities in our healthcare system. Your support is invaluable and greatly appreciated.

Equity Statement

The C. V. Roman Medical Society does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, or disability. religion, culture, sex, or sexual orientation.  We recognize that there are groups that have historically faced and continue to experience discrimination, injustice, and unequal access to basic resources and opportunities.  We intend to improve the diversity of the medical community to reflect the community that we serve.
