The Center for American and International Law (CAIL) has dedicated itself to improving the quality of justice through the professional development of lawyers and law enforcement officers. CAIL was founded as the Southwestern Legal Foundation by prominent Dallas attorney Robert Storey upon returning from his service as lead prosecutor of the Nazis at the Nuremberg Trials following World War II. Since its inception, CAIL has been actively advancing and improving the quality of justice in the North Texas community and abroad. In our last fiscal year, CAIL served up to 6,000 individuals throughout all our programs. Through our Institute for Law Enforcement Administration (ILEA), we served 943 law enforcement officers and over 100 police departments.
In the 77 years since its founding, thousands of Texas lawyers and law enforcement officers have benefited from CAIL's educational courses, many of which are hosted at our North Texas education center in Plano, Texas. CAIL's impact extends beyond program participants because the lawyers and law enforcement officers we serve play critical societal roles. Our programs help participants better serve their communities, courts, and organizations. Through programs like Actual Innocence, we help participants become better lawyers and law enforcement officers while preventing innocent people from being wrongly imprisoned, their lives destroyed, and their families devastated. Moreover, CAIL's law enforcement programs prepare police officers with ethical leadership skills to enhance community well-being and safety. Our goal is that all our participants receive the educational tools needed to exercise their responsibilities with skill, integrity, and fairness.
