Caddo K9 Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in June 2023 by disabled US Army Veteran, John Gunderson and his wife Sheryl.

At Caddo K9 Academy, we have a clear and impactful mission: to provide service dogs and PTSD therapy puppies to disabled veterans and first responders in Texas—completely free of charge.

Did you know that Texas is home to approximately 1.6 million veterans, many of whom carry the lasting effects of their service? Shockingly, nearly one-third of them suffer from service-related disabilities. This is why we're dedicated to making a difference, one paw at a time.

In 2024, our goal is to place 2-4 service dogs with individuals who need them most. Each placement offers a life-changing opportunity for a veteran or first responder, providing them with the companionship and support they deserve.

But we can’t do it without you. Your support is crucial to our mission. Every contribution, big or small, has a real impact.

Each service dog costs approximately $35,000, covering everything from procurement and care to training and ongoing support.

Here's how your donations make a difference:

🔍 Procurement: Sourcing and evaluating new dogs for our training program.

🐾 General Care: Food, kennel care, and training supplies.

🏥 Veterinary Care: Medical screenings, medications, and general healthcare.

👩‍🏫 Service Dog Training: Staff wages, and transportation for dogs and staff between program locations.

👨‍🎓 Veteran/Service Dog Training and Equipment: Training, adaptive equipment, and support for disabled veterans and their service dogs.

🔍 Follow-up Support: In-home visits, customized training, public access testing, and annual recertification.

Your generosity ensures that our heroes receive the help they need and deserve. Together, we can make a profound impact on the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

Let’s come together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have served our country and communities.

Thank you for supporting Caddo K9 Academy and our mission to serve those who have served us.

Mission

At Caddo K9 Academy, our primary objective is to provide trained service dogs to disabled veterans and first responders who require mobility assistance or need alerting for seizures or diabetes. We also specialize in providing PTSD emotional support animals (ESAs).
