Equity Statement
The Coalition for Aging LGBT stands in solidarity with our Siblings of Color.
As an organization that serves the generation that stood up at Stonewall against Police brutality, we understand the importance of equality, equity, and diversity. It is our honor to serve the people who first served us.
One of the tenets of the Coalition has always been education. From our Health Forums to our North Texas LGBT-Friendly Senior Housing Guide, we believe one of the strongest ways to change minds and hearts is through education and conversation.
We are committed to continue that education, first, internally to make sure our Board and Staff understand their privilege and how better to use it for our marginalized communities; and secondly, publicly to help weed out micro and macro aggressions of Racism and White Supremacy that still pervade this country.
We recognize that many of us would not be here today if not for Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, two trans women of color who led street kids, drag queens, gay men, and lesbians in a similar uprising 51 years ago.
We want you to know that the work we do to serve the aging LGBT population of North Texas is infused with the belief that Black Lives Matter. The belief that Trans Rights are Human Rights. The belief that there are a myriad of genders, not two. The belief that ALL people have a birthright to age with dignity and pride.
