Congregation Shearith Israel began in 1884 in the southern sector of Dallas. In the early 1950s. we purchased 14 acres in the heart of North Dallas and built what is the original section of its current permanent campus. This is also where the Weitzman Family Religious School is located and the location of regular prayer services, Torah studies, community events, youth and family programs, and SISterhood gatherings among many other activities.
We serve more than 1,020 family members representing thousands of Jewish men, women, and children from dozens of zip codes and communities across Dallas and County Collins. Over the last few years, our religious school has seen tremendous growth. As it nears 200 students, the need for financial assistance has grown as well.
This year, we our focusing our North Texas Giving Day campaign on raising funds to assistant Weitzman Family Religious School students needing scholarship assistance.
The Weitzman Family Religious School exists to:
- Instill students with a love of Judaism and learning, and a powerful connection to Israel.
- Seamlessly weave Jewish learning throughout our educational programs, helping students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to observe holiday rituals, participate fully in services, and read Hebrew.
-Understand Judaism is not just meant to be studied; it is meant to be lived.
- Offer a stimulating and nourishing environment where learning is for everyone —and additional resources are available for students of all needs.
