$10,000 Goal

CoPilot Animal Rescue is a small rescue and sanctuary for dogs and livestock animals in North Texas. We provide support for around 60 animals a month including: dogs, chickens, horses, mules, donkeys, pigs, sheep, and goats.

Most of our livestock animals are “defective” in some regards they do not make them good candidates for adoption. For example, a donkey with severe knuckling of their feet requiring intense lifelong care and maintenance, an elderly cutting horse losing the ability to keep weight on, potbelly pigs too large for the house, or retired sheep too old for breeding.

We also care for up to 20 dogs at a time in our 1500 sq foot indoor, air conditioned kennel. We have three dog yards that our kennel assistants rotate dogs into for exercise. Many of our dogs are flown up from South Texas in order to be rehabbed here in Denton county. We also offer services for other rescues who need a checkpoint to medically and behaviorally evaluate dogs before heading to out of state adoptions.

Mission

CoPilot Animal Rescue is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, providing a safe haven for sick, abused or abandoned animals and educating the community on the value of all life.

Needs

We have an urgent need for livestock shelters to protect our goats and equines. We’re currently have 15 goats, 2 horses, 2 donkeys, and a mini mule that need a better long term shelter option. Half of our temporary shelter in their pasture was destroyed by recent storms and the remaining half leaks badly. (The rescue sheep and pigs in the rescue have a workable shelter option.)

Our other fundraising need is heartworm treatment for dogs in our care. About half the dogs we intake have life threatening heartworm disease. Our veterinary costs limit our ability to help more dogs.

Our director’s family personally finances the costs of 5 employees to keep the rescue tended to but that limits the availability of funds for other projects to improve the welfare of animals in our community.

Equity Statement

At CoPilot Animal Rescue, we are committed to equity and inclusivity in every aspect of our work for humans and animals. We believe every animal deserves compassion, care, and a chance at a loving home, regardless of their background or breed. Our team is dedicated to creating an environment where all animals and people are treated with respect and fairness, ensuring that our rescue services are accessible and supportive to everyone in our community.
