In 2002, a small group of parents began a weekly, half-day program serving three adults with special needs in a private home setting. The goal was simple - to provide them a place to learn new skills and make friends in a safe and cheerful environment.
By 2004, the program outgrew the home setting and briefly relocated to a local church. Coventry continued to grow and in 2005, moved to the current facility located in a country setting just North of downtown Wylie, Texas in St. Paul. This move allowed more space for expanding our programs and the number of participants.
Ten years later in 2014, Coventry expanded the existing facility with the addition of a 3,420 sq. foot Life Enrichment Center that allows Coventry to serve more participants from our community. The new building increased the size of the creative skills center, brain building area and added a half court gymnasium, welcome center and gathering porch.
In 2015, Coventry began offering supplemental programs that include art theory/application and horticulture.
In 2019 Coventry purchased a residential home and began a weekend respite program for the families we serve. Future plans include respite programming expanded to a five-day a week program.
Long range plans include an expansion of our day program facilities as well as residential care facilities.
Our Needs
As a nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of donors to support our mission to respect, challenge and support adults with special needs.
Our families we serve pay tuition for our day program and that tuition revenue accounts for approximately 50% of the needed funds to operate. The sale of our handcrafted pottery goes directly back into the program and funds another 20% of our operational needs. We trust God to provide the remaining support needed to serve now and grow to expand to serve more.
