Founded in 1998 by the Dallas County Dental Society, the Dallas County Dental Society Foundation is a charitable resource for providing Dallas County with essential oral health care needs. Since 1998 the Dallas County Dental Society Foundation has had the opportunity to:

  • Provide over $3.7 million in care to more than 5900 underserved patients at Texas Mission of Mercy held in Dallas since 2004 in partnership with the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation.
  • Educate elementary school children in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) and other Dallas County schools about oral health.
  • Place sealants on elementary school students in DISD schools.
  • Launch two programs in conjunction with the Dallas Dental Hygienists' Association to provide oral health education in schools (ToothTalk) and nursing homes (Senior Smiles) in the Dallas area.
  • Collaborate with Attitudes and Attire program to promote volunteers to provide dentistry to Hopeful Smiles and Boots to Heels programs.
  • Offer scholarships to dentists interested in public service.

During 2023, DCDS Foundation provided:

  • 400 oral exams and oral hygiene kits for DISD after-school program students and 250 CFBISD students at 11 Give Kids a Smile-Dallas locations with the help of 14 dentists and 22 other volunteers. Over 80 dental volunteers (including 33 dentists) initially signed up, but an ice storm the day of the event scaled down efforts.
  • During the inaugural Dental Tree Program efforts in November, dental volunteers delivered oral health kits and education, along with meals through VNA Meals on Wheels, to 150 low-income seniors.
  • During the inaugural Dental Tree Program efforts in November, four dental offices provided  general, direct restorative and removeable restorative treatments totaling $22,335 in treatment to six underserved patients.
  • 745 adult oral health kits and 320 children oral health kits were distributed by DCDS Foundation volunteers during eight community health fairs in under-represented areas of Dallas.

Mission

The mission of Dallas County Dental Society Foundation is to enhance oral health in our community.

Needs

Our focus this year is on our Dental Tree Program, a service opportunity for dentists and their teams to serve Dallas County's most at-risk populations in their own offices. Together, we can unite in early November to serve our most vulnerable patients and to serve our Dallas community. In doing so, we are planting the seeds of improved oral health to make a lasting impact.

We also need donations to provide oral health kits (toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, educational literature) for underserved children/adults during health fairs and for our seniors in assisted living communities.

Equity Statement

Diversity and inclusion are the core of the success of any organization, including our Dallas County Dental Society Foundation. We seek to recognize and respect our differences, and to understand how our individuality supports our common goals. We celebrate our unique cultural experiences, which when woven together can cultivate creative new ideas and perspectives to improve our community and enhance patient care.
