For 52 years, Dallas Area Fiber Artists (DAFA) has united North Texas artists with backgrounds in all fiber media, including art quilting, embroidery, weaving, felting, needlework, and mixed media.  Its members have won national and international competitions and together they work to educate, inspire, and promote fiber arts across North Texas.

With your generous financial support, the organization will be able to continue and expand its educational efforts, community service, and arts outreach in the North Texas community.  Our mission consists of:

  • Art workshops, classes, and seminars:  We bring nationally known speakers to Dallas to present art programs to members and the public.
  • Arts education outreach:  We help teach fiber art to students of all ages by sponsoring and funding teachers.
  • Direct support to Texas classrooms: Our organization and members furnish art class supplies and books to local schools, from the elementary level to university level.
  • Community service projects and in-kind response to urgent appeals:  Each year our members create countless fiber-based pieces to donate directly to local charities and hospitals.  These include baby blankets, healthcare masks, chemotherapy caps, Alzheimer’s fidget blankets, and many other projects that benefit the local community.
  • Art shows and exhibitions:  Dallas Area Fiber Artists holds competitions, challenges, and exhibitions that promote the work of established and up-and-coming North Texas artists.

Mission

Donor and members are at the heart of DAFA helping us further our mission of honoring fiber traditions, promoting excellence and innovation, and inspiring widespread participation in fiber art! We seek to promote and advance fiber art with the education of members and the public through artist presentations and lectures, exhibitions, workshops, shows, and educational activities; promote mutual understanding and cooperation in artistic endeavor among fiber arts organizations; and to promote mutual understanding and cooperation in artistic endeavor among Dallas area arts organizations.

Needs

As a nonprofit, giving back is in our DNA. We roll up our sleeves, reach out and use our creative skills to make a difference in the communities we serve. We would appreciate financial support for materials to make items to donate such as sensory fidget blankets for Alzheimer and Dementia patients, dolls and bears for www.DollsOfHope.org, and baby blankets for Love Thy Baby. We also provide materials for grade school art instructors. We support workshops in the community to promote making art. We sponsor speakers and workshops to our members and the public to teach skills and promote artists.

Equity Statement

DAFA believes artists come in all shapes, colors and sizes! DAFA members strive to promote the development of artists wherever they may be found in our local community. Art has the power to change lives, cross any boundary or barrier and broaden minds.
