The Dallas Woman's Forum is celebrating its second century of community service, promoting women's leadership, and historic preservation. The Dallas Woman's Forum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit philanthropic organization started in 1906. With an active membership of women of diverse professions, ages, races and religions, we share a common goal: to work together to serve the women and children of our local community.
Alongside our charitable and educational undertakings, we are focused on the preservation of a historic Dallas landmark, The Alexander Mansion. The 120-year-old landmark is the only original home left on Ross Avenue close to the downtown Dallas area. The Alexander Mansion has been home to the Dallas Woman's Forum since 1930.
Generations of Dallas women have embraced the Alexander Mansion as a hub for community outreach. We are humbled to be part of a legacy of strong women who make a difference in north Texas. The Dallas Woman's Forum has a rich history in philanthropic community outreach, and an inclusive membership philosophy. With the historic Alexander Mansion as our home, the DWF has hosted numerous community activities, including a variety of holiday events for Landauer (Head Start) Preschool, diaper collections for CASA, teacher and student support for Birdie Alexander, baby showers for underprivileged expectant mothers, and a meeting space for other nonprofit organizations. Our member programs include a variety of topics to educate, enlighten, and entertain our diverse group of women members.
You may have attended a tea or special event at the Alexander Mansion. If so, then you have experienced first hand the qualities and ambiance that make the Alexander Mansion so special. Visitors can feel the permanence and history in the plaster walls and wood floors. This home is one of the few links to our history - built in an era when Dallas was finally beginning to develop into the prosperous city it is today. It is not a relic of the past but an inspiration to the future and its preservation is imperative.
Our Focus on NTX Giving Day
We are raising funds for the preservation and ongoing restoration of the historic Alexander Mansion.
Immediate needs include the repair and painting of original woodwork on the doors and windows, interior wall restoration, and exterior fence repairs. Stabilization of the foundation and repairs to deter large cracks in the exterior solid antique brick walls are part of our ongoing efforts. Additionally, roof leaks have caused damage to brick walls and water damage to interior wood paneling and trim along with plaster wall surface deterioration.
