DBSC is an all volunteer nonprofit working with our homeless and low income neighbors.

We run the Denton Water Project, coolers of iced bottled water placed around town, filled by volunteers. We average 2800 bottles a week and by Aug 1st have provided over 350,000 bottles since June 2021.

Our hope is to build a resident managed tiny house village to help heal and transition people from the street to housing.

In the meantime, we supply seasonal supplies and food to those in need.

Testimonials

Denton Basic Services Center is the BEST! They help so many people in need. Anytime I find someone in need of something, I can count on DBSC to come through for them. ❤️ Kim Tuck McGivern

I don’t normally share this, but I feel led to do so in this situation. A while back, my girls and I we’re experiencing homelessness. When I tell you I called all organizations in Denton and most (not all, just the main ones advertised around town or the biggest ones in town) of the churches in town and NOT ONE helped… either no funding or we had to meet other qualifications like being homeless and on the actual streets for atleast 72 hrs, etc Denton Basic Services Center did help….. There were a few times they couldn’t help with a specific need, but they found someone who could. All that to say, there no way we would have survived all that without them. It’s Bc of them we never spent not 1 night on the street! So please, on this North Texas Giving Day, please consider them at the very top of your list when making your donations. 🫶🙏🏼🤞🏼name withheld for privacy.

Providing support to keep people housed

Giving Activity

Mission

Our vision is to establish a transitional village that provides opportunities to those who are currently without housing to build human-scaled communities and work with other community members to develop relationships and skills that will enable them to transition to a more sustainable lifestyle. The village rests on the notion that self-governance provides residents with autonomy, responsibility, and respect. Design and organization of the village will be based upon best practices derived from a comprehensive study of long standing “tent cities” and tiny house villages in the United States, lessons learned from local encampments, and a creative understanding of permaculture principles

Unlike congregate shelters, tiny house villages provide the stability needed for people to rebuild their lives, including the support and encouragement of peers who understand what they have been through, and the privacy to work through their recovery. As a result, they are better prepared to move towards permanent housing than being housed straight from the street. This transformational approach, providing a place for healing within a community, gives residents the opportunity to experience stewardship.
