DFW Wildlife Coalition, Inc is a nonprofit providing a solution driven wildlife hotline serving the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area and surrounding twenty counties in North Texas. Our virtual hotline is one-of-a-kind nationwide and is active 365 days a year from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central Time — offering guidance for wildlife emergencies, concerns, and conflicts.

The DFW Wildlife Coalition Hotline began in January of 2003 with three hundred telephone calls. Today, twenty-one years later, the hotline has responded to over 13,000 calls since January. Each call typically involves one or more animals, such as a nest of baby bunnies, birds, or a dozen ducklings. Each call provides life saving information and/or conflict resolutions which reduce orphaning and euthanasia of our Texas native wildlife.

DFW Wildlife Coalition is 100% volunteer operated. We receive no agency funding. We depend on individual donations and occasional grants. Your contributions benefit local North Texas wildlife.

Our hotline volunteers:

  • Provide callers with guidance when a wildlife rescue is appropriate and provide a referral to a specialized permitted wildlife rehabilitator.
  • Identify and advise how and when to reunify wild babies with wild moms. This directly reduces the number of kidnapped or orphaned wild babies.
  • Educate on the value of our wild neighbors and reduce unfounded fears — resulting in the reduction of trapping, as trapped, and relocated wildlife rarely survive.
  • Provide DIY solutions for wildlife conflicts and responsible referrals to humane removal companies that meet the standards of the National Humane Society.
  • Educate the public how to ensure that wild predators like coyotes and bobcats stay fearful of close encounters, we help keep everyone safer, including the wildlife themselves.

As the human population of North Texas grows, so does the number of human-wildlife interactions and hotline calls. The DFW Wildlife Coalition Hotline is only possible with the help of donations and volunteers.

Giving Activity

Mission

The mission of the DFW Wildlife Coalition is to reduce the incidence of orphaned and euthanized native wildlife in the DFW metroplex through public outreach and education.

Needs

DONATIONS: Your $50 donation gives over 100 (calls) of our native wild animals a second chance to survive. Your support has a significant impact. Together, we can share our backyards and cities with our wild neighbors.

VOLUNTEER: Interested in volunteering with the hotline? We have two volunteer opportunities:

Tier 1 is the call center operator responding to the public's phone calls.

Tier 2 responds to public emails. They also lend a hand to the Tier 1 volunteers by returning voicemails during our busy season.

Your shift and volunteer duties are 100% virtual, making it possible for anyone to volunteer, even folks from outside of North Texas or individuals with disabilities. You will need a phone, an internet connection, and a computer.

By joining our team of over seventy volunteers, you will meet kindred spirits making a difference for the wildlife in your neighborhood and city. You can impact a single wild animal’s life or a nest full of babies with each phone call. Experience the joy of reuniting a baby squirrel with its mother or assisting a caller in successfully evicting a mother raccoon from their attic. While ensuring mother raccoon can safely take her babies with her. Our volunteers report that their shifts help them see the good in people, like a busy executive stopping to rescue an animal in need.

Speaking of busy, our volunteers are busy individuals, and this opportunity is designed to allow for that. Our volunteers commit to a 2 or 3-hour shift once a week that can be done from any location. We provide volunteers with resources, education, mentors, and access to fellow volunteers. All the tools you will need to make a lifesaving difference.

Volunteering is truly a rewarding opportunity if you love helping people and love animals. Join our "wild" family today! Email or call us at volunteer@dfwwildlife.org or call 972-234-WILD (9453).
