Since 2001, East Lake Pet Orphanage (ELPO) has saved the lives of thousands of dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, and other pets. East Lake Pet Orphanage has been connecting people and pets for the mutual enrichment of life by providing orphaned pets medical care, surgical care, a warm place to stay, love, attention, and by matching these rescued pets with people who provide permanent loving homes for them.
ELPO opened its doors at the time of the closure of a city shelter and the shutdown of other non-profit rescues in the area. The cessation of operations for these shelters significantly increased the need for a safe haven for abandoned and neglected animals in this region. Since its inception, ELPO has been dedicated to providing a loving and compassionate environment for a wide variety of species.
As the only no-kill shelter in our area, East Lake Pet Orphanage rehabilitates and re-homes homeless pets in need. Pets that come through our doors are sometimes in need of intensive medical care, either from abandonment or physical trauma. Our devoted team of doctors and nurses work hard to help pets to recover while we search for their forever homes, no matter how long it takes. Additionally, our team of dedicated volunteers work to socialize pets daily so they can be ready for the right family when the time comes.
Also, at the East Lake Cat Care Center, we facilitate cat and kitten adoptions in a "Cat-Only" facility that caters to everything "Feline". This allows for a quiet, peaceful environment not only for the medical and surgical care that we provide, but also for the potential adopters to come and spend time with the cats and kittens.
Housed on the East Lake Veterinary Hospital campus, ELPO is supported by a network of passionate volunteers and fosters who work tirelessly to improve the lives of animals in need.
Each of the East Lake doctors have charitable hearts and a devotion to aid in addressing the plight of homeless pets. This commitment is demonstrated by the donation of their time and services in caring for hundreds of animals each year.
Help us save more homeless pets...
Since 2001, East Lake Pet Orphanage has served as a safe haven for unwanted injured and abandoned animals deserving a second chance limited only be space. ELPO has plans to expand into a 3,200-square-foot building adjacent to the existing East Lake Veterinary Hospital and East Lake Cat Care Center. Plans are underway to grow the facility by adding four floors to house East Lake Pet Orphanage which will allow for greater capacity to care for even more rescued animals.
The building itself has been home to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). In support of our Veterans, the DAV will continue to operate on the first floor of the existing building which has already been converted into a community meeting space, adoption center, and continuing education + event space. Today, ELPO partners with veterans for volunteer and employment opportunities, adoption events and Red Cross blood drives at the facility.
Donations of any size will help us to save homeless pets and continue down the path of expansion to save even more. Thank You.
