Children need more than a system; they need a village.
In the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, there are over 2,000 children living in the foster care system. At Foster Village DFW, we believe it's the job of our community to come together to become a village of support for these children and their caregivers. We strive to bridge the gap between children living in foster care, kinship care, and being reunified with their family and those in the community who want to help. Our goal is to meet the practical needs and provide support beyond the system.
They shouldn't have to do this alone.
As a community, we can help these children, foster families, kinship families, and/or biological families by creating a village of support during their time of crisis. Everyone can do something, however big or small. They're all our children and every one of us is needed.
It takes a village.
To come alongside children and families in the child welfare system and show them that they are not alone.
90% of surveyed foster and kinship families report that the services provided by a Foster Village location were a sustaining factor in their ability to continue fostering.
When a child comes into foster care in DFW it usually is an emergency removal, which means the foster parent or kinship caregiver has mere minutes to prepare their home and life for a child. Our Welcome Pack program exists to meet those early, tangible needs. Foster Village is in need of community partners with a desire to create a better experience for our community's most vulnerable children. Some ways to 'Join the Village':
- Become a monthly supporter (you choose the amount and duration)
- Give a one time monetary gift that will go toward providing basic necessities for children entering foster care as emergency placements.
Some examples of how donation dollars are spent for children entering foster care...
$25: new shoes
$100: new bed
$200: items to fill a Welcome Pack
$300: Bunkbed set to keep siblings together
$500+: Establishing a physical Resource Center
- Volunteer your time and talents to enrich the lives of foster youth.
