Through donations, sponsorships and volunteers, The Friends organization oversees the maintenance and beautification of the trail, including native landscaping, trail maps, bike racks, benches, water fountains, waste baskets, and public art. We work with the many communities around and impacted by the Santa Fe Trail to discover how the community uses the trail and what changes they would most like to see. Working with the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department, the Park Board, Public Works and other entities, we ensure that community ambitions become reality.
We’re just getting started – your support of our organization to successfully inform and adopt a master plan in 2022 has been critical. This spring, the citizens of Dallas approve the issuance of a large bond package to support the Parks and Recreation Department – this will allocate $2.25 million dollars to the trail!
We have successfully fundraised for Phase 1 of several major projects that will soon be implemented: a pedestrian plaza at Brookside Bridge; picnic tables and benches at Glasgow greenbelt; the creation of a sculpture park at the T-Intersection; and a shade structure at the Trinity Forest Spine Trail in partnership with UTA and the Loop.
We are seeking $10,000 this year via North Texas Giving Day 2024. These funds will provide enhanced landscaping, broader amenities (public art, benches, trees, water fountains, etc), and hedge against cost overruns to complete these projects.
The Friends of Santa Fe Trail is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for capital improvements, programs and operations related to the Santa Fe Trail, as well as generally supporting and enhancing the trail. The group is committed to preserving the culture of the communities it connects and providing a safe, inviting experience for all users.
FOSFT Racial Equity Statement
Friends of Santa Fe Trail stands for racial equity and against systemic racism. In seeing recent acts of violence, aggression, discrimination, and racism against minority and marginalized communities, Friends of Santa Fe Trail feels it is important to be unequivocal in our position that these acts and behaviors have no place in our country, in our community or on our trail. Making a statement is important, and, as a community organization, we want to ensure that our work represents our values.
As such, we are committed to actions that encourage equitable access and enjoyment of the Santa Fe Trail for all users and neighbors, diversity on our board and in our committees, and steadfast opposition to any racist or discriminatory acts or behaviors encountered on the trail, in our board or with our partners.
