Friends of Solar Prep supports the Solar Prep Schools, two singe-gender Transformation pre K-8 campuses in the Dallas ISD. One of the differentiating factors about Solar Prep Schools is that our founders knew that higher academic achievement at STEAM and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) choice schools costs more than neighborhood schools. Friends of Solar Prep raises funds that support our students in their educational pursuits and our teachers in the classroom, ensuring our scholars have the resources needed to achieve their full potential. Campus principals determine campus needs and how dollars are allocated each year.
Solar Prep is unique because we have students from ALL over Dallas. This provides an important mix of lifestyles and experiences. I love seeing students be friends with people who do not live in the same neighborhood or have the same type of family. It gives me hope for the future.
--Ms. Mathai, Solar Prep for Girls
We are helping mold the minds of future leaders and changemakers. It is palpable.
--Ms. Moneer, Solar Prep for Boys
To continue our trailblazing record of high-performance since 2016, we are raising:
1. $25,00: Enhanced Learning Spaces and Programs
Our Solar Scholars are leading the way in our community. Help us elevate their learning experiences with new and improved facilities, such as a transformational science lab, an indoor play area for inclement weather, and advanced programs in physics, reading, debate, orchestra, and modern band. Your support will provide essential tools and innovative spaces that scholars rely on every day!
2. $25,000: Expanding Our Library Collections
Curiosity is a cornerstone of Solar Prep’s philosophy. Our libraries are vital for nurturing a lifelong love of learning. For many students, these libraries are their primary source of books. Your contribution will help us fill our shelves with diverse and engaging titles, making a significant impact on our students’ educational journeys.
3. $25,000: Investing in Teacher Training
Empower our educators with advanced training in best practices for delivering our SEL and STEAM curricula. Investing in our teachers enhances their ability to foster a supportive and effective learning environment, directly influencing student success, classroom culture, and overall retention.
4. $25,000: Supporting the Peace Pantry
The Peace Pantry plays a crucial role in addressing food insecurity and providing essential resources to Solar families. Your donation ensures that our community remains strong and supported, helping families meet their basic needs and thrive.
*If you prefer, you can make your gift to either campus (Girls or Boys), the Solar Peace Pantry or the Jennifer Turner Scholarship Fund, by noting it in the comments section.
Solar Prep for Boys is a unique and special place. Here, we do more than provide rigorous academic instruction—we guide our boys on the journey of becoming great men. We understand boys. We meet them where they are. We celebrate their energy, their movement, their joy, and their playfulness. Most importantly, we see each boy as an individual and honor them as brothers in a community built on respect and belonging.
--Mr. Hernandez, Solar Prep for Boys
I wish more people knew how intentional everything at Solar Prep is. From the way we build community, to the focus on social-emotional growth, to the opportunities for girls to lead and use their voices—it’s all designed to shape confident, compassionate, and capable young women ... It’s about giving our girls the tools to navigate the world, believe in themselves, and know they belong in every space they enter. That’s what makes Solar different, and that’s why I’m proud to be here.
--Ms. Reyna, Solar Prep for Girls
Friends of Solar Prep is a volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit organization led by a board of parents and community leaders who work to ensure every Solar Prep student has equal access to educational opportunities to realize their full potential. We support the Solar Preparatory Schools, two challenging and inclusive schools, through fundraising for student and educator enrichment.
The main charge of Friends of Solar Prep is to help bridge funding gaps between what the school district's funding provides and what is needed on our Solar campuses for higher academic achievement. Since 2016, we've raised more than $2,000,000 from grants, corporations and generous individuals. We're proud to build and support two campuses in an innovative model that brings together Dallas scholars from all parts of the community and across socio-economic backgrounds.
