The Friends host a number of social activities throughout the year to increase public awareness of the Bedford Public Library. In addition, fundraising is an important role of the Friends which enables the Library to expand services by direct purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials that exceed available budgeted funds as well as sponsor college scholarships for junior volunteers. The Friends of the Bedford Public Library have donated close to $250,000 since 2006!
Volunteer Opportunities
Bedford Library Friends volunteer their time in many ways, including:
The Bedford Library Friends meet on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm. These meetings are open to all Friends members and those interested in learning more about the Friends and the Library.
The Bedford Library Friends is a group of individuals who share a common desire to perpetuate the growth and promote interest in the Bedford Public Library. The Friends believe the Library is an educational and cultural asset to Bedford and all of North Texas.
The Friends of the Bedford Public Library are dedicated to enhancing our community’s access to knowledge, learning, and connection. As the ways people learn and work continue to evolve, we recognize the urgent need to expand our library’s resources to better serve students, remote workers, and families. To meet these needs, we are raising funds for three essential additions to our library:
*Study Pods for Remote Workers and Students
With more people studying and working remotely than ever before, quiet and private spaces for focus and productivity are in high demand. Study pods provide a dedicated environment where individuals can concentrate, attend virtual meetings, and complete their work without distractions. Your support will help create a more functional space for students and professionals who rely on the library as their workplace.
*Interactive Learning Toys for the Children's Area
Play is a fundamental part of a child’s development, helping to build critical thinking, motor skills, and social interaction. By introducing high-quality interactive learning toys to the children’s area, we can foster hands-on learning and engagement, making the library an even more enriching space for young minds.
*Ebooks to Expand Digital Access
In an increasingly digital world, access to ebooks is essential for lifelong learning and literacy. Ebooks provide flexibility for readers who prefer digital formats, individuals with disabilities who benefit from adjustable text settings, and community members who may not be able to visit the library in person. Expanding our digital collection ensures that more people can access the books they need anytime, anywhere.
By supporting this initiative, you are investing in a stronger, more inclusive library that meets the evolving needs of our community. Your generosity will directly impact students, remote workers, children, and readers of all ages—ensuring that our library remains a vital resource for learning and growth.
Together, we can create a library that serves everyone. Thank you for your support!
The Friends of the Bedford Public Library are committed to fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and equitable community where all individuals—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, age, socioeconomic status, or background—have equal access to resources, programs, and opportunities.
We believe that libraries serve as vital centers for learning, connection, and growth, and we strive to support initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through our advocacy, fundraising, and volunteer efforts, we work to ensure that the Bedford Public Library remains a place where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered.
