In the United States, an estimated two out of every five children experience clothing insecurity, meaning they lack access to adequate, appropriate, or affordable clothing. This often-overlooked challenge can have serious consequences—children who feel insecure about their clothing may struggle with self-esteem, become distracted in class, or even avoid attending school altogether. The result is increased absenteeism and a widening achievement gap, making it harder for these students to reach their full potential (Source: Champions for Children: A Report on Clothing Insecurity, 2022, Delivering Good & the National Diaper Bank Network).
Frisco Threads Student Clothes Closet was established in 2021 by the Frisco ISD Council of PTAs with a mission to support students facing clothing insecurity. The program provides free clothing and shoes to economically disadvantaged students enrolled in Frisco ISD, helping ensure every child can attend school with confidence and dignity.
Each semester, students have the opportunity to "shop" for new or gently used clothing and brand-new undergarments and socks. Once a year, they also receive a new pair of athletic shoes, and a winter coat, hat, and gloves to stay warm during the colder months.
Since opening its doors, Frisco Threads has distributed over 83,000 clothing items to nearly 2,800 students. In the past year, we served 864 students with nearly 27,000 items—a remarkable 60% increase in the number of students served since our first year. As we continue to grow, we anticipate welcoming over 900 students to Frisco Threads during the 2025-2026 school year.
Frisco Threads is entirely volunteer-run and sustained by the generous clothing and financial donations from our community. Every dollar raised goes directly toward supporting Frisco ISD students in need—funds are used to purchase essential items like new socks, undergarments, athletic shoes, and other clothing necessities.
Thank you for helping us fulfill our mission: ensuring that every Frisco ISD student has access to clothing that allows them to feel confident, comfortable, and ready to succeed. Together, we are making a meaningful difference—empowering students to show up, stand tall, and thrive.
The clothes are free. The confidence is priceless.
