We save them, so they can save you!

Shutt’er Down Ranch & Rescue is a non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating neglected, abused and homeless dogs & livestock.

Every year we help more that 500 dogs find their forever home and rehabilitate dozens more who become a permanent part of our family.

Additionally we care for more than 150 livestock (pigs, goats, horses, cows, sheep, donkeys, emus, birds & water fowl). We aim to not only rehabilitate these animals, but also to give them a happy and healthy home to grow in.

The health and security of our animals is our top priority. All animals who come through our gates undergo comprehensive veterinary exams and receive all needed medical treatment including vaccinations, surgeries and pain management. We take the time to ensure safe, loving and caring foster families and work tirelessly to find the best homes for each animal based on their unique needs and character.

Our work goes beyond our direct care. We aim to help other non-profits better care for their animals through our partnership with Greater Good Charities. In 2022 we distributed more than $6.2 million in supplies to 100 non-profit rescues in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

Our Need:

Over the last year we have experienced a dramatic increase in animals in need of rescuing. We are working hard to expand our facilities to support this increased need and are looking for funds to help facilitate this. With your help we hope to come one step closer to fulfilling our top three priorities for 2023:

  • Livestock shelter - We have more livestock than ever coming to our ranch and we want to provide them with the safest, warmest and most healthy environment possible. By building a new livestock shelter we can not only improve the lives of the current animals, but increase our capacity to care for more!
  • Medical expenses - From amputations skin diseases to vaccinations to heartworm prevention, we support each and every animal in their recovery. Donations will go to help these animals get the treatment they need.
  • Increase coverage - We want to expand the overall capacity we have at Shutt’er Down Ranch & Rescue. The livestock shelter will go a long way for the livestock, but we have a number of smaller renovations we can do to help us care for more dogs and nurse them back to health.

Volunteer Support

In addition to donations we are always in need of volunteer support. Specifically we are hoping to recruit volunteers with experience in the below:

  • Supply distribution

Our Programs:

THE GOODS (Rescue Bank) Ambassador Dallas Region

Rescue Bank operates on the national food bank model, accepting food donations from manufacturers, distributors or retailers. Suppliers such as Chewy, Purina, J. M. Smucker, Mars, and PetSmart notify us that product is available. We then schedule and pay for delivering the donation to an Ambassador responsible for a regional distribution center. The Ambassador notifies pre-qualified non-profit groups, which pay a small, per-pound handling fee and pick up their product. For disaster response or law enforcement actions, no handling fee is required. Rescue Bank is a valued partner for both suppliers and the animal rescue and foster organizations across America. With millions of pets in need throughout the country, Rescue Bank helps convert donatable product into goodwill for the donor. We understand what it takes to maintain brand integrity throughout the donation process: properly vetting groups, maintaining equitable distribution, and tracking product from their facilities .

We distributed over $5 million in food and supplies in 2023.

Equity Statement

Girtys Place Animal Rescue recognizes the deep systemic racism within our communities and our field. Racial bias impacts us, our colleagues, our community, and the human-animal bond. We are committed to promoting equity for all individuals who are providing and receiving animal care and animal sheltering services.

We also care strongly about fostering a supportive and welcoming community of animal rescue practitioners. We stand in solidarity with our members fighting systemic racism and we share in this time of meaningful introspection to identify our own shortcomings. Diversity and inclusion make us stronger as an organization and a profession.
