We offer no cost grief support individual counseling and support groups for preschoolers through senior adults. Over the past year, 75 children ages K - 18 have participated in grief support groups at our center. In addition, we offer no cost grief support groups for young adults through senior adults. We provide support groups for the following: Suicide Loss, Homicide Loss, Child and Young Adult Child Loss, Older Adult Child Loss for Senior Adult Moms, Family and Friends Loss, Young Adult Group for 18-35-year-olds, Spouse Partner Loss, Suicide Loss and Suicide Loss of a Child. We welcome children and adults with special needs and design individualized programming for them if they need specialized services other than what we typically offer.

We host our support groups online through Zoom and conducting new client intakes by phone or Zoom. We are also providing counseling by phone, FaceBook or Zoom. We feel strongly that our current and new clients need our services even more as the aftermath of COVID-19 becomes more evident.

Client Testimonials

YOUNG SPOUSE/PARTNER LOSS GROUP MEMBER  - "I am so grateful for my support group. They help me understand that anything I am feeling is alright. They have lifted me up on some of my darkest days listened to anything that is on my heart. They have helped me in ways I could have never imagined. I am forever grateful to the Grief & Loss Center. I can’t imagine being on this journey without these special people.”

MOM’S GROUP MEMBER - "When I lost my son, I needed love, empathy, and understanding.  I found them all at the Grief and Loss Center. My group has bonded with one another in such a profound way, that I feel that every child represented in the group has now become one of our own children Each one of us understands what it’s like to lose a child. We get it and we love and support each other and have a bond that will never be broken.”

SAM’S TEEN GROUP MEMBER - "I felt their warmth and acceptance of my teen group. We learned how to grieve in a healthy way. The biggest thing I learned is there is not one proper way to grieve. We each grieve in our own way. What separates SAM’s (our K-12th grief support program) from any other grief counseling is that they allow you and even encourage you to feel and go through all the emotions of grief. The kids in my group understand because they have also lost someone they love.”

YOUNG ADULT GROUP MEMBER - "In my support group, our shared experience gives way to an understanding that I am unable to find in my daily life. The support group has been invaluable. What sets the Center apart was the absence of denomination and respect for individual faith traditions. This allows for diversity in experiences and has opened me up to philosophies and worldviews I have incorporated into my own battery of coping mechanisms.”

SPOUSE/PARTNER LOSS GROUP MEMBER - "After being on my grief journey for several months, I realized I couldn’t do it alone without a hand to hold onto. I needed courage, friendship and strength and found them all at the Grief and Loss Center. It’s through our meetings that I have seen the growth in myself and how much strength I do have to move forward in my life.”

CHILD LOSS GROUP MEMBER - "Our support group cares and respects one another and remembers our children as the unique and special kids they are. In society, there is stigma and judgment because my child died from an accidental drug overdose. However, there is no stigma or judgment at the Grief and Loss Center. Our group is a refuge from all that. I don’t know where I’d be without the love and support of my group.  This is the only place I can let my guard down and express how I’m truly feeling- even on my worst days.  I know my child and I are loved, supported, and seen.  And for this I am incredibly grateful.”

"Gracelyn has been asking every other day/week, 'When are we going back to that place where I got to talk about Luca?' I am so grateful you and your volunteers make SAM's place a safe place for us. Y'all are gifts to our grieving hearts!" - Tiffany, SAM's Parent
