$15,000 Goal

The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Council's mission is to transform the region into an inclusive community where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) thrive. The IDD Council is a collaboration of public and private agencies, as well as individuals who have IDD and their families. The Council invites everyone to the table to develop plans for long-term changes in the system and address key issues and provide immediate solutions where possible.

In addition to advocacy, the IDD Council seeks to bring inclusion and awareness of IDD through community events and education sessions. Since the Council's formation in 2015, we have hosted over 200 educational events for caregivers, and organizations that provide services to people with disabilities, and other Caregiver networking events.

  • Making Connections Disability Resource Fairs, held throughout Tarrant County bring together the disability resources in our community to one easily accessed location for families and caregivers to collect information and learn about benefits and services each provide.
  • CAPEabilities Job Fair for people with IDD provides job skill training and employment opportunities for more than 500 people, age 14 and older, with IDD each year.
  • "Be Safe" interactive workshop for first responders and students with disabilities.
  • Transition resources for families and educators
  • April Cools’ Day for children and adults with disabilities and their families to enjoy an inclusive egg hunt, visits with the Easter bunny, and an afternoon of games and activities.
  • Sensory Santa allows families to enjoy a private visit with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause
  • Caregiver Education and Networking events
  • Disability Employment Awareness activities throughout October
  • …and more.

Did we mention these events are FREE to the community? We ask for your support to sustain the work we do and events we provide. Together, we can collectively accomplish in Tarrant County what no one individual, agency or leader can do alone.

Thank you!

Mission

To bring stakeholders together to create an environment for the development of an efficient and accessible system of support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Needs

Our current agency needs are wide-ranging!

As we grow we need more volunteers and committee members to advance the mission and goals of the IDD Council. Committees include: Communications and Programming, Special Events Planning, Transition, and Finance.

Financial funding helps to provide the numerous events and educational sessions hosted free to the community. Learn more about our annual events on our website.

It is your skills, your ideas, your time, and yes, your financial contribution - that creates awareness, inclusion, and opportunities for success, not only for the Council but also for people with IDD!

Equity Statement

The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Council of Tarrant County (IDD Council) believes that the full inclusion and participation of people with disabilities in community life, without regard for age, race or religion, requires that individuals have an array of service and support options from which to choose, and most importantly, that they have the central role in planning and directing their own future. The IDD Council believes that individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities should have full access to opportunities, services and supports needed to be included in community life, live in homes and communities of their choosing, have mutually healthy and supporting relationships, obtain inclusive employment, access to reliable and affordable transportation, and make contributions to their families, communities, the state, and the nation. Working together, our community thrives!
