Help Irving Youth Theatre Build Confidence, Community, and Creativity—One Show at a Time
Irving Youth Theatre (IYT) was founded in January 2023 as part of the Entertainment Series of Irving’s educational outreach. Since then, IYT has brought 13 musicals to life, including the full-length Into the Woods and an original musical adaptation of Kevin Henkes’ beloved book Chrysanthemum. Along the way, we have made a lasting impact on young performers and their families throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.
Our exciting 2026–2027 season includes the full-length Shrek The Musical, Matilda Jr, and summer theatre camp shows. Our innovative Summer on the Stage Production Camp gives students the opportunity to explore not only performance, but also the technical, backstage, and front-of-house work required to produce a live show.
In February 2027, IYT will premiere an original production, Sioux City Science Fair: A Musical Mystery, featuring an engaging new storyline, memorable characters, and original songs performed on the Irving Arts Center stage.
IYT welcomes students in grades K–12, regardless of where they attend school. Each production is designed for a specific age range, ensuring that young performers at every stage of development have an opportunity to participate, grow, and shine.
Through the magic of live theatre, our students—and the families and audiences who support them—experience community, creativity, confidence, collaboration, and joy. Being part of a production can be truly transformative, and we are committed to making that experience accessible to every child.
Your Donation Brings the Stage to Life
Every IYT production is a labor of love and a community effort. Our average production budget is approximately $15,000, with most shows costing between $10,000 and $20,000 to produce.
Expenses include:
Performance royalties and licensing fees
Theatre and rehearsal venue rentals
Sets, costumes, props, and technical equipment
Production materials and educational resources
Professional artistic and technical support
Ticket sales cover only about 25% of the total cost of producing a show. Donations help bridge the gap, keep participation fees as affordable as possible, provide scholarships to families in need, and ensure that IYT can continue offering high-quality theatrical experiences for young people.
There Are Many Ways to Support IYT
Financial gifts are essential, but the community can also help bring our productions to life by volunteering to:
Build and paint sets
Create, gather, and organize props
Sew, alter, and organize costumes
Sell program advertisements
Request sponsorships and donated goods
Assist with backstage and technical crews
Usher and welcome audiences
Manage concessions and merchandise
Attend performances and invite others to join us

All are welcome and included. IYT families come from all over the world! Our shows are open to students in Kindergarten through 12th grades no matter which school (or homeschool) they attend. Some shows allow for college-age students to join us. Each show has a different targeted age-range for performers. Families must be willing to rehearse and perform in Irving. Students may participate on the stage or behind the scenes. IYT provides scholarships for young people to be able to participate no matter their family's finances. Families are required to volunteer and participate in the production of the shows as Irving Youth Theatre is an all-volunteer organization. Community members are welcome to volunteer as well.
