Transforming Texas into a state where Latinos are represented in places of power.
Jolt Initiative is a 501c3 organization that is building a Latino-led movement by using art, culture & storytelling to win our community the power & respect we deserve. As part of our work, Jolt aims to remove barriers to our collective progress by:
-
Building a culture that empowers voters & working with all stakeholders to achieve equitable representation for Latino communities;
-
Providing leadership development programming that gives young Latinos the skills & confidence to transform their communities;
-
Inspiring high school students to effect immediate change by organizing their peers & using their voices to speak up for Latinos
Texas has one of the lowest voter turnout rates in the country. In 2020, 53% of eligible Latino voters cast ballots, compared to 72% of white voters. Meanwhile, 63% of eligible Latino voters were registered versus 78% of their white counterparts.
Jolt understands that to get young Latinos invested in the democratic process, they must be equipped with the tools and resources to make their voices heard and feel empowered to transform Texas. To change the status quo where Latinos make up the largest demographic group but are underrepresented in places of power, Jolt works to ensure Latinos are at every table where decisions that affect the community are made.
