We are a local organization that is focused on preserving the history of Justin, TX and surrounding communities. One of our current projects is the Gaston House, this project will serve as the initial project for the foundation. The foundation is focused on more than just the house however. Our goals are to bring community awareness to the unique heritage that Justin, Texas brings to the area. You can find several houses and buildings throughout the town that tell this story, while other buildings are merely just pieces we have left of what once stood there.
What do we know about the Gaston House?
Built in the early 1900's by the Gaston family this house stands along what we now call boss range road across the street from the elementary school. This property has been a working farm since the beginning until recently in 2022 when they land was bought by developers. The house has always been a treasure to the community with its fish scale details. Unfortunately the house has not be attended to, and needs a lot of work. During the developers agreement with the city the house was brought as a focus point of the community, and the developer donated the house and 6 lots to the city. It is now the goal of the foundation to bring this beautiful farmhouse back to life.
What are the plans for the Gaston House?
The foundation’s first plan is to begin the mothballing process which includes roofing, structural, and exterior work. We will then put in place a fundraising campaign for the remaining cost of renovations which we estimate the restoration to be around $500k. The intention is that this house becomes a community treasure, that many get to enjoy now and in the future while reminding them of the farm town Justin has always been.
Why should we save the Gaston House?
We need to save our heritage; we need to preserve what made Justin a place to call home. Unfortunately, our children are loosing the opportunity to see the tangible evidence of our heritage and what life was like in the great state of Texas many years ago. They deserve a historical place to see what life was like in Justin Texas. Imagine walking through the front door and being that farmer planting row crops, trying to survive a Texas summer in 1887. Help us preserve the few remaining pieces of history within Justin; we can’t afford to loose another. Our history helps define our future; let’s not loose another opportunity.
