Mazie’s Mission is a full-service, 501(c)(3) veterinary clinic dedicated to serving nonprofit animal rescue organizations and municipal shelters. Our mission is to provide comprehensive and affordable veterinary care to pets with serious and routine medical conditions in an effort to lower the euthanasia rate. We do this by offering deeply discounted services to animals in shelters and 501(c)(3) rescue groups all across North Texas.
Dr. Erin Shults started the Mission in 2009 by rescuing as many special needs animals as she could, cured them, and placed them in forever homes. In January 2014, we opened the very first non-profit veterinary hospital in the United States that only serves rescue organizations and shelters. We are the only veterinary clinic of its kind in the country, focusing on animals in need of homes and partnering with other groups that help save their lives. In March 2019, we relocated to a larger facility in order to better serve disadvantaged animals in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Since our inception, we have helped save thousands of animals and significantly cut veterinary costs for our rescue community.
Mazie’s Mission has a multi-tiered approach to animal welfare. Our primary focus is the rescue hospital currently located in Carrollton, Texas, where we perform everything from routine vaccines and treatments to complex surgeries. The rest of Mazie's Mission includes various community outreach programs. Our First Responders Program offers low-cost care to rescued animals of police, fire fighters, EMS, and dispatchers. We offer a low-cost Heartworm Treatment Program to help treat pets recently adopted from shelters. We also maintain a robust foster-based rescue program of our own, rescuing medically needy pets from local shelters, healing them, and finding forever homes for them. Additionally, with the help of our volunteers, we partner with rescue groups and shelters to support their active foster and adoption programs. We do everything in our power to help the underserved, homeless, and abused pets in our area, as we believe that all pets deserve access to the care that they need.
We are a self-sustaining charity that was founded upon the ideals of collaborating with other non-profits to directly reduce the euthanasia rate in our state. The reduced fees that we offer our partner rescue groups and shelters are sufficient for us to break even. All additional donations or profits from our operations are used to pull the most-needy shelter animals from the euthanasia list in order to treat them and give them a chance to find a home. After a decade of clinic operations, Mazie’s Mission is having a direct impact on needless euthanasia. Mazie’s has treated over 25,000 animals and has a client base of over 350 non-profit rescue organizations and shelters in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and we have been experiencing a 20% growth rate each year since moving into our current facility. By working together with like-minded individuals and organizations, we are helping to make a better world for needy pets and the people who love them.
Our mission is to eliminate the euthanasia of at-risk pets in the DFW area. We do this through a multitiered approach:
Rescue Hospital: providing comprehensive discounted veterinary services to pets in the rescue system
Community Outreach: serving pets belonging to abused, homeless, or homebound individuals
Rescue: rehabilitating and rehoming critical medical cases from shelters that would otherwise be euthanized
Forensic veterinary medicine: assist in prosecution of animal abusers
After faithfully serving the abused and neglected animals of our community from our Carrollton location since 2019, we have outgrown our current facility! We have been diligently working to find a new space that better fits the needs of our patients and the humans that care for them. We were able to secure a perfect match!
Our beautiful new facility is right down the street from our current location and boasts FIVE exam rooms, an upgraded surgery suite, larger kennel facilities & runs, an upgraded Isolation Ward, a dedicated cat room (right now kitties share space in lab with us) and more!! With the expanded space comes a need for more equipment and kennels. We will need funds not only for the build out of the new space, but more anesthesia machines, surgery lighting and tables, IV pumps, wet tables, etc.
This bigger space will allow us to see more patients every day, directly impacting the lives of the animals we serve.
