McKinney Avenue Transit Authority (MATA) provides transportation service on a heritage streetcar system through Uptown, to the Dallas Arts District Downtown and Klyde Warren Park in Dallas to riders from all backgrounds and origins. Our service is used for commuting, exploration, entertainment and education.
MATA strives to preserve a historical link to Dallas' past through the restoration and operation of vintage electric street cars via paid employees and community volunteers. This effort has been ongoing since 1989 and has been made possible by contributions from DART, Uptown Dallas, Inc., Downtown Dallas, Inc., National Transportation Database funding and individual contributions from local businesses, users and supporters of our initiative.
Our Needs
1. General Operating Support to meet MATA's increased operational costs as MATA's current route system provides a minimum of half a million rides annually.
2. Program Support to meet increased costs of governmental compliance related to safety, security and maintenance.
3. Expand services and features to area residents, visitors and children by offering improved operations, tools, educational tours, facilities, lectures and events by restoration of an additional trolley.
4. Expansion/Furnishing of our Trolley Car Barn/Office at 3153 Oak Grove Ave., Dallas, TX 75204
5. Restoration of vintage trolleys to expand our environmentally friendly fleet creating more equitable and affordable mobility options.
